500 miles, 500 more

So here's the deal (don't worry, it's simple). I want to get healthy and lose weight.

Also... I'm a whovian.

But instead of a New Year's Resolution, I'm making a new me resolution.

I resolve to walk 500 miles.

I will be using google maps walking directions to map out each walk I take and I will post those as often as I can. I invite you to join me via the submissions link. Set personal targets (personally, I do not have a time limit on mine - I just have a final goal) and help support your fellow whovians.

This is just a brief note to let you know I’ve been gearing up for the 500 mile challenge! I did over 600 miles in 2011, but I had drastically cut back on my walking during November due to lack of time during NaNoWriMo, so I was getting pretty slack and needing the motivation to get back to walking for real. I have now started to build up the mileage once again. I was averaging just under a mile but have increased that, and now I have walked 8.5 miles in the last 4 days. I am READY for January 1st to begin!

not my first walk on this quest, but today I walked 1.2 miles uphill (still sitting on that hill, so I’ll be up 2.4 miles soon).
you know, walking 500 miles doesn’t seem so daunting when you can end up in places like this. next time I’m up here (my mum lives at the bottom of the hill), I aim to be less out of breath and far less sweaty.

doctordonnasplayground asked: I'm going to try to do the 500 in 2012. that equals roughly 2 miles, 5 days a week. I have a lot of health trouble though, and there is no way I can do 2 miles at all right now, I can barely make 2 blocks. So I will be working up to it and making up time at the end of the year. And living in Phoenix walking outside is difficult in the summer. But I'm gonna do my best. Thanks for the inspiration.

if you only walk a mile a day or even a mile a week, if you’re walking more now than you were before — that’s a good thing.
